Fears / phobias

"Fear is only as deep as the mind allows." — Japanese Proverb

We humans are born with only two fears: the fear of falling (of being dropped like little babies) and the fear of loud noises. Every single other fear in our lives is a learned behaviour. They often stem from a past experience, observation, or association, which the mind then reinforces and can become ingrained and exaggerated in the mind, causing significant distress.

For example, let’s take a person who experiences a stressful or frightening event, like nearly tripping over a dog or having an unpleasant encounter with an animal. This moment of fear gets "wired" into the brain. Over time, the brain associates that specific trigger—such as dogs or certain situations—with danger, even though no real threat exists. This association grows stronger, and what began as a simple fear transforms into a phobia, often without any link to childhood or deeper trauma. The brain simply holds onto the learned response, creating a cycle that can feel difficult to break from.

Hypnotherapy combined with Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT) is an incredibly effective, gentle approach to overcoming fears and phobias. By guiding you into a relaxed and focused state, hypnotherapy allows us to access the subconscious mind and address the root cause of your fear. We challenge the irrational beliefs and replace them with healthier, more realistic responses, gradually rewiring the mind to respond to triggers in a calmer, more rational way.
